Elyse’s Country Journal – July 25, 2013 – HarneyRE – Salisbury, CT
Salisbury and the surrounding communities of northwestern Connecticut offer a wide range of unparalleled opportunities. Please enjoy Elyse’s Country Journal, published weekly on Wednesday. Elyse’s hope is that it will help open up a new perspective of our area.
  • The annual Jane Lloyd Fund Clambake returns to the Salisbury Winter Sports Association Satre Hill on Saturday, July 27, from 2 to 8PM. The clambake dinner begins at 5 PM and will feature lobster, steamers, raw bar, clam chowder, potato, corn on the cob, dessert and one beverage. Clambake dinner tickets, priced at $50, sell out every year and must be purchased in advance from Tanya Tedder at 860-435-9661 or Donna Lloyd Stoetzner at 860-824-5493. The event will feature live music, and grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold. Admission is free, although donations to the Jane Lloyd Fund are appreciated.
  • All proceeds from the clambake are used to advance the mission of the Jane Lloyd Fund which helps cancer patients meet their day-to-day financial obligations while undergoing cancer treatments. When local Salisbury resident, 38-year old Jane Lloyd was diagnosed with cancer, she was unable to work full time, and the stress of meeting her financial obligations weighed heavily upon her. A large group of friends and community members assumed Lloyd’s day-to-day expenses, enabling her to live her final days at home. After her death, the Jane Lloyd Fund was established to provide financial support for families facing a cancer diagnosis in the Region One area.
  • Come hear the VOICES of Summer! The Berkshire Choral Festival presents Britten’s Spring Symphony and Vivaldi’s Gloria on Saturday, July 27, at 7:30 PM. Conducted by Nicholas Cleobury. Pre-concert lecture is at 6:15 PM. Berkshire School is at Route 41 in Sheffield, MA.

  • The Salisbury Association invites you to visit The Newly Renovated Academy Building and see the new Meeting Table made from a 300-year-old oak. Saturday, August 10, from 4 to 7 PM. Corner of Main Street and Academy Street in Salisbury.
  • Actors and writers from the Northwest Corner will share their dramatic and literary skills at a Salisbury Family Services fundraising event called “Salisbury, Our Town: An Evening of Readings Celebrating Small-Town Life,” in the Walker Auditorium at The Hotchkiss School on September 28 at 6 PM. Among the performers, schedules permitting, will be Ed Hermann, John Benjamin Hickey and Laura Linney. Joining the actors will be authors John Burnham Schwartz and Ann Arensburg. The Joint Chiefs will be on hand to provide music and song. The performances will be followed by dinners at private residences around town. Invitations to the performance as well as to the dinners will be sent in the next few weeks. Salisbury Family Services, a nonprofit organization serving residents of the town of Salisbury, is currently providing scholarships to summer camp for children of families in need. Assistance is given for resident and day camps, special needs, arts and sports camps. For more information, or to receive an invitation, call 860-435-6677.
