Snow Making Masters

December 11th, 2020

It is no surprise that Mohawk Mountain will be one of the first to open for skiing this weekend! Our local love of skiing has been so strong for over a century that below-average snowfall in the winter of 1949 inspired Cornwall, CT ski enthusiast, Walter R. Schoenknecht of Mohawk Mountain, to get creative.  Schoenknecht’s passion for skiing guided him through extensive research and experimentation for nearly a decade and culminated in a design that has forever revolutionized the sport of skiing – the first artificial snow machine!

The Berkshires offer pristine skiing throughout the area and a community of winter-warriors, like Schoenknecht, whose adventurous spirits glisten with the first glimpses of winter!
